Frequently Asked Questions

What is SO-YOU-DONT-HAVE-TO (SYDHT)?

SYDHT is a next-generation self-driving database platform. It goes beyond existing database tools by supporting holistic optimization and real-time intervention across DBMS fleets.

What versions of PostgreSQL does SYDHT support?

The platform can optimize any version of PostgreSQL running either in the cloud or on-prem except for EnterpriseDB (EDB) and their offerings. We do not support EDB for obvious reasons.

Full support for all optimization actions depends on the operating environment and service provider (e.g., managed service vs. self-hosted).

What can SYDHT optimize in PostgreSQL?

The current version of SYDHT supports nearly all aspects of database tuning for a single instance:

  • System Knobs
  • Table Knobs
  • Index Selection (Add/Drop)
  • Index Knobs
  • Query Hints (via pg_hint_plan).

But SYDHT also understands how each instance operates in your DBMS fleet (e.g., staging vs. prod) to unlock additional optimizations:

  • Version Upgrade Guidance
  • Hardware Allocation (Instance Size, Provisioned IOPs)
  • Workload Rebalancing / Replica Offloading
  • Migration / Schema Change Scheduling
  • Misconfiguration Detection
It does not support table partitioning because that is a destructive action that could result in downtime and data loss.

How much does this service cost?

Right now this information is provided on a need-to-know basis.
